Igniting Tomorrow's Leaders
Our program, based on the tenets of Waldorf Education, offers children ages 4 through 14 a developmentally appropriate, experiential, and academically rigorous approach to education. This is achieved by educating the whole child, head, heart, + hands.

The Wild River child learns across disciplines and modalities, through nature, play, art, music, the written word, and mathematical reasoning, how to discover the world through every lens possible.
Our time-tested approach develops independent thought, creative problem-solving, and confidence. Our goal is to provide a firm foundation for tomorrow's leaders and creators, as evidenced by the success of Waldorf graduates worldwide.

Welcome to Wild River, a community-centered independent school serving grades TK-7 in Tahoe-Truckee and beyond.

Educating the Whole Child
HEAD
We spark curiosity and wonder. Children at Wild River develop their capacity to think clearly, question deeply, and cultivate imagination alongside intellect - creating a solid foundation for academic excellence.
HEART
We nurture empathy and connection. Through stories, music, and art, children learn to feel and build strong relationships — with themselves, others, and the world around them.
HANDS
We learn by doing. From kneading bread to building forts, children discover that their hands can create, heal, and transform. Practical skills for real-world knowledge.

Trees Over Tech
Screens are everywhere today, and the pressure to plug kids in early is real.
When children get time to simply be children—building with their hands, playing in the dirt, acting out stories, painting, singing, connecting face-to-face with friends and teachers. They learn how to focus. To be more creative. More themselves.
Our low-media approach isn't about rejecting technology or pretending it doesn't exist. It's about giving children the chance to develop strong inner resources first—imagination, curiosity, problem-solving skills, empathy. These are the capacities that will actually serve them in an unpredictable future, no matter what technology brings.
We bought a 40-acre property to prioritize investing in the real world for our students and community, ensuring that childhood is what we are growing at Wild River.
